Liberty Industrial stepped in as the main demolition contractor to assist BHP Billiton Iron Ore after another contractor’s contract was rescinded due to non compliance with company standards. Liberty Industrial was employed to complete the clean-up works to the satisfaction of BHP Billiton in preparation for the future HBI facility demolition project.
The task included the safe demolition and removal of concrete foundations, slabs and rubbish in order to ensure the next stage of works could be commenced safely.
The demolition project used six 35 tonne demolition excavators with hammer, shear and pulveriser attachments together with a crew of eight personnel.
Based on the site drawings we marked out the locations of the former buildings. We then demolished the concrete slabs and foundations. This was done with excavators equipped with hammers and pulverisers.
The concrete materials were loaded and stockpiled in a designated location on site and most of the steel reinforcing was removed from the pulverised concrete where possible.
During the course of these works, a small crew of personnel and excavators traversed across the site cleaning up and removing loose debris, rubbish and non-recyclable materials ahead of the concrete demolition crew and disposing of these materials off site at an approved landfill facility.
