The project involved the demolition and remediation of Toshiba Australia warehousing and office facilities in Parramatta including car parking and landscaped areas in preparation for residential redevelopment of the site.
The scope of works included the demolition and removal of all aboveground and belowground infrastructure including the demolition and removal of all above ground structures and the excavation and recycling of in excess of 8,000tonnes of concrete and asphalt pavements and the removal of all shallow building foundations and redundant services infrastructure to 1.0m below grade.
The works also included the remediation of asbestos contaminated soil involving the excavation, stockpiling management and the disposal of 600 tonnes of asbestos containing soils.
Given the tight program requirements for the project, Liberty Industrial mobilised one of our 120t Hitachi excavators with a Rotating shear attachment. This enabled us to collapse the 8m high pre-cast concrete panel structures less than a week from commencement. We then deployed three machines with specialised demolition attachments including grab, pulveriser and shear attachments to process the demolished material for recycling.
Liberty Industrial recycled over 95% of the demolition waste. The large quantity of concrete demolished from the buildings and slabs enabled us to provide a cost effective solution to the client that included the crushing and screening of those materials.
Liberty Industrial produced in excess of 8,000 tonnes of quality recycled concrete product including a 30mm minus, a 20mm aggregate and a 40/70 aggregate for sale and brokered the sale of these products. and stockpiled approximately 1000 tonnes of residual material on site for beneficial reuse on the building construction works. This option provided the client with a better commercial outcome than direct offsite disposal.
